This is How to Choose a Home Lender

When looking into getting a mortgage, you actually have quite a few types of lenders that you can choose from. Remember that not every type will work for everyone, so you have to do the research for each to know which is going to be the best for your home buying experience.
  1. Financial institutions. These are often a great benefit for buyers who are already a client at a particular branch. These branches can include both banks and credit unions. Some carry discounts for clients who obtain mortgages through them.
  2. Online mortgage brokers. These are convenient types of lenders, and they are steadily growing popular in the digital age. They do not actually hand out a mortgage to homebuyers, though. Instead, they do the searching for you. You simply enter in the information that is requested on most mortgage applications and these brokers will find competitive mortgages for you.
  3. Non-bank lenders. These types of lenders are available outside of any banking institution. They can be their own private lending company or work as part of an enterprise of companies. When you are looking into any of these, as well as those you find online, always ask if they are approved by Fannie Mae.
  4. Mortgage broker. These are different from online mortgage brokers in that they will actually do a lot of the calling and requesting directly from different lenders. After gathering your information together, they can compile a list for you to easily review and choose the perfect lender for your needs.
Finding a good lender is not difficult if you do your research. The bottom line is that some lenders will be a better fit for you than others. Learn as much as you can about different types of lenders so you can find one that fits your needs.
